性状 白色斜方晶系的晶状粉末。 熔点 1060℃ 相对密度 3.25~3.35 溶解性 微溶于水，易溶于盐酸。 白色斜方晶系的晶状粉末，微溶于水，易溶于盐酸，具有防锈，抗粉化，耐高温，防爆等功能。偏硼酸钡在储存和运输当中，容易吸潮、结块，水溶性大，在各种树脂中的相溶性和在漆膜中的牢固性都差，不适于作业颜料用。但若采用聚合、无定型水合二氧化硅包覆偏硼酸钡而制成改性偏硼酸钡，就可降低偏硼酸钡的溶解度，偏硼酸钡在存储时吸湿水分，使构成饱和溶液中盐量减少、在逐渐变干和冷却时析出较少的能粘合晶体的新晶粒，达到减少改性偏硼酸钡在储存中的结块现象。因此实际产品就是这种改性偏硼酸钡，改性偏硼酸钡含有一定的二氧化硅及结晶水，理论化学式为Ba(BO2)・H2O。相对分子质量241.0，商品颜料中至少含有90%的偏硼酸钡[Ba(BO)2・H2O]。改性偏硼酸钡产品是由结晶晶性颗粒组成的，商品的粒度范围一般波动在0.35～35μm，平均粒度约为8μm，有效粒度为3μm，改性偏硼酸钡有脱水现象，但它不全吸湿，也不会从空气中吸收水分。当加热至1050℃ 时熔融，改性偏硼酸钡在水中微溶，在21℃ 水中溶解度最高0.4%，一般的典型产品为0.3%，易溶于盐酸。具有防锈、抗粉化、防霉、耐高温和阻燃作用。
