亮黄色单斜晶系结晶体。密度6.12g/cm3，熔点844℃。不溶于水、油和醋酸，溶于强碱和无机强酸。遇硫化氢变为黑色，遇碱变为橙红色。着色力和遮盖力强。不能与立德粉及群青共用。有毒。色光随原料配比和制备条件而异，有橘铬黄、深铬黄、中铬黄、浅铬黄、柠檬黄等五种。柠楦铬黄[3PbCrO4・2PbSO4+Al(OH)3+AlPO4]。铬酸铅含量不少于50%，色泽鲜艳， 带绿相，制漆光泽度好，同蓝色颜料可配成鲜艳的翠绿色，色泽相当于10G。耐光性达4～5级。耐热性140℃。水渗性、油渗性为1级。耐酸性、耐碱性为3级。浅铬黄（5PbCrO4・2PSO4+Al(OH)3+AlPO4]。铬酸铅含量不少于60%，色泽鲜艳，着色力强，制漆光泽度好，同蓝色颜料可配成浅绿色。铬酸铅含量比柠檬铬黄高。色泽相当于4G。耐光性达5级。耐热性为140℃。水渗性、油渗性为1级。耐酸性、耐碱性为3级。中铬黄（PbCrO4+PbSO4)。 色泽纯正，制漆光泽度良好，同蓝色颜料可配成中绿色。铬酸铅含量最高，在90%以上。色泽相当于G。耐光性达4～5级。耐热性140℃。水渗性、油渗性为1级。耐酸性、耐碱性为3级。深铬黄（PbCrO4+PbCrO4・PbO)。铬酸铅占85%，带有红色的色光，着色力强，色泽相当于GR。 耐光性达5级。耐热性为140℃。水渗性、油渗性为3级。橘铬黄（PbCrO4・PbO)。是碱性铬酸铅，PbCrO4含量不低于55%，色泽为橘黄色。耐光性良好，可达5～级。耐热性为150℃。水渗性、油渗性为1级。耐酸性、耐碱性为3级。
